Google has completed its $32 billion purchase of cloud security company Wiz. It is a major deal that changes expectations for acquisitions and cybersecurity mergers. It becomes the biggest purchase in Google’s history.
Shardul Shah, a partner at Index Ventures and an early board member and large shareholder in Wiz, said the company gained strong strategic importance by working at the meeting point of cloud computing, AI, and risk management. This is an area where spending is steadily increasing, and companies feel strong pressure to improve security.
Wiz made popular a single “code-to-cloud” method that shows only the security risks that really matter. It connects weaknesses, user identities, configuration mistakes, and running system data across Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud. This clear view helps companies reduce the overload of security alerts and turn technical findings into clear priorities for company leadership.
Growth also played an important role. Wiz quickly became one of the fastest-growing enterprise software companies of its time. In a market that values simple tools at large scale, many customers chose a single platform to manage cloud risk, and Wiz provided that solution.
The Strategic Reason Behind Google Cloud’s Wiz Deal
For Google, the deal brings both growth opportunities and protection against competition. On the growth side, Wiz improves Google Cloud’s security offerings alongside Chronicle, BeyondCorp, VirusTotal, and the Mandiant security unit. Together, they create a complete platform covering threat detection, response, and early risk prevention. On the competitive side, the deal helps Google Cloud stand out in enterprise evaluations, where security and compliance often determine which cloud provider wins new workloads.
Google has finished its $32 billion cash purchase of Wiz, an AI security platform and Israeli cloud. The agreement is a significant moment for the global cybersecurity sector and the largest deal in Google’s history. The Wiz company team will be continuing to support customers across major cloud platforms and become part of Google Cloud while keeping the Wiz brand.
The deal was completed after a year of regulatory review and negotiations. Google first tried to buy Wiz in 2024 with a $23 billion offer, but CEO Assaf Rappaport rejected the proposal because he believed the company could grow much more. New discussions started again in early 2025, leading to a final agreement announced in March 2025.
Why Wiz Is Important for Cloud Security
Before the acquisition was completed, Wiz had already become a powerful player in cloud security. The company passed $1 billion in annual recurring revenue in 2025 and expected about 40% growth in 2026.
About half of the Fortune 100 companies already use Wiz. The platform’s main strength is its ability to connect code, cloud infrastructure, and runtime activity into one shared security view. This helps organizations clearly understand how applications are created, deployed, and operated across complicated multi-cloud systems.
Over the past year, Wiz has also expanded its platform to deal with AI-related threats. New features allow organizations to see how AI applications are being used, reduce AI-related risks, and protect AI workloads while they are running.
What the Combined Platform Will Provide
Together, Wiz and Google Cloud will deliver an AI-powered cybersecurity platform. It combines Google’s threat intelligence and security operations expertise with Wiz’s cloud-native protection tools.
Even after joining Google Cloud, Wiz will continue to operate as a true multi-cloud security platform. Google has promised that Wiz services will stay available for customers using other cloud providers. This decision is meant to build trust with enterprise clients and expand the overall market for cloud security services.
