The honeymoon! Yes! This is part of the wedding that everyone anticipates and all of your guests ask about. However, you and you’re intended have decided that taking a week or more for a honeymoon is just not in the cards for you right now. You may not be able to fit it into your budget or your busy life.
First of all, that’s okay. You’re probably making a fantastic financial decision by holding off on a big trip that you may not be able to afford, yet. Second, more people are opting out of huge honeymoons in favor of taking a bigger trip later. Yep, two honeymoons. It’s a thing now. So if you take a shorter one now, know that a second, longer one is in the cards and no one can judge you for it.
So now that you’ve decided that you are going to skip town for a weekend, where are you going to go? Do you want to have a completely relaxing weekend to relish all of the love that was just aimed your way via family and friends? Or would you rather have an action-packed few days to explore and start your marriage off with a bang? We have come up with a few ideas for you to consider, ranging from minimal to maximum activity levels.
Have a spa retreat
Chances are that the reason you can’t take a long vacation now is that one or both of your jobs are pretty hectic. A spa retreat is just the ticket for the overworked and underappreciated. Pick a place to laze around all weekend, get couples massages, and jacuzzi yourselves into a chocolate-fueled haze. What a way to ease yourself back into your daily life after the wedding!
Take a weekend B&B trip
This is a little bit more effort on your part. Locate a bed & breakfast somewhere with a lot of color. Pick a town in the middle of the mountains, a quaint town, or anywhere that suits you as a couple. Then sleep in a comfy bed, have a nice lady make you breakfast, and explore the local shops and sights. Find somewhere cool for dinner that doesn’t exist at home (think small business and eclectic) and then go back to the B&B for some wine and porch sitting. This choice is the perfect blend of comfort and activity for a couple that doesn’t want to overdo it but also doesn’t want to do anything at all.
Adventure Weekend
For the more active couple, we’d suggest a weekend crammed with adventure. Book a trip to a resort where you can raft, zipline, and backpack to your heart’s content. One step further? Tackle a section of your local long-distance trail (Appalachian Trail for the easterners, Pacific Crest Trail for the westerners) for your special weekend. You can turn that into a DIY by framing a map of the trail and marking the dates you crush each section. Then, when you’ve hiked the equivalent of 2,000+ miles of trail in 40 years, you can show that stuff off at a grand anniversary party. Hey, we’re a planning app – we obviously like to plan ahead.
No matter what you do, make sure it is a trip that complements you as a couple. If he likes backpacking, but you’d rather go to a spa, find a middle ground. It’s your honeymoon, so no matter the location or activity, you should both be happy there.
